The design process
Getting to know you
free consultation
The first step to transforming your garden is for us to understand your wants and needs.
What’s your vision for your garden?
How will you use it?
What atmosphere or mood do you want to create?
What elements or planting would you like to include?
Perhaps you’ve recently moved into a new build house with a blank canvas for a garden, or perhaps you have a special occasion coming up and you want your garden to look its best for entertaining?
Or maybe you want to introduce some winter colour and interest for the colder months with a planting plan for a particular border.
Whatever your requirements we will take a collaborative approach, working with you to create the garden of your dreams.
The concept plan&mood
BOard
bringing ideas to life
Once the brief has been agreed, we will arrange a survey of your garden which will give us the details of the layout of your site, including any level changes, access points and where the utilities are located.
We’ll also take our own photos in addition to any you might have previously supplied. We’ll then create what’s known as a concept plan (a draft design for your garden drawn to scale) which focuses on the layout and ideas for planting etc. rather than the specific details of which plant goes where.
To help you visualise this concept plan we’ll provide sketches and mood boards to enable you to see the colour palette and planting ideas, together with any suggestions for hard landscaping or structures such as pergolas.
the masterplan
developing the design
We specialise in hand-drawing, so once the concept plan has been signed off, we will produce some sketches and a hand-drawn masterplan showing the precise layout of your garden and the design elements, material choices and planting so that you can see how the whole thing comes together.
construction drawings
the devil is in the detail
Once the masterplan has been signed off, we will dive into the technical details of any design elements, such as construction drawings for steps, pergolas etc.., setting out plans, lighting plans etc. which enable the landscapers to build out the design.
PROJECT MONITORING
We can supply you with contacts for our recommended landscapers and then if you would like we can conduct regular project monitoring visits on an hourly fee basis to ensure the design is being built as per the plan.
PLANTING OUT
Having sourced the plants to the size and budget agreed, we will work with you to plant out your garden, co-ordinating deliveries to site and then setting out the plants. Planting hours onsite are based on an hourly fee.
AFTERCARE
We can either provide you with a maintenance plan for a one off fee, or if you would rather have someone take care of your garden, we can recommend local gardeners or depending on our availability, we may be able to offer maintenance services ourselves.
